Title Tax Manager

Description The Manager, Tax is primarily responsible for supervising the activities and personnel of the America’s Region Tax Department to ensure tax compliance in the Americas (including Federal and state income, sales and use, and property taxes). The candidate is also responsible for tax planning and the development and implementation of tax strategies and initiatives (in conjunction with the Global Tax department). The candidate must schedule projects and resources for all related responsibilities and provide support on special projects, as needed. Other responsibilities include monitoring, researching, and providing recommendations for federal and state tax developments, leading transfer pricing activities, managing tax examinations, and accounting for income taxes under IFRS.

Requirements
Essential Functions: (Specific duties and responsibilities critical to completion of daily workload)

MAJOR/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide leadership in all tax functions of the company, working as a business partner with Global, Regional, and Market / Country organizations as a single-point of contact for all tax matters in the Americas.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws in all applicable jurisdictions.
- Coordinate, compile, and review financial information needed to prepare all required income tax returns.
- Define and establish timetables to provide for compliance with various tax due dates for returns, estimated payments, etc.
- Maintain transfer pricing documentation and lead overall transfer pricing activities (in conjunction with the Global Tax Department).
- Oversee compliance and reporting for indirect taxes (such as property, sales and use, and excise taxes).
- Conduct thorough tax research to develop and communicate tax strategies which help minimize tax liabilities.
- Monitor legislative changes in U.S. and foreign tax laws that may impact company's tax positions, including tax accounting implications.
- Provide tax planning support for new business initiatives
- Provide supportive services to Group Tax (e.g., in connection with implementation and execution of global tax-related projects).
- Provide assistance in settlement of inquiries and disputes with taxing authorities at minimum cost to the company.
- Partner closely with and guide business leaders to ensure that they understand and the requirements for achieving the business tax objectives.
- Primary point of contact with external advisors and auditors in regards to taxation matters.
- Responsible for income tax accounting in accordance with IFRS.
- Maintain documentation of internal control tax procedures and tax legal positions (FIN 48).
- Build and maintain relationships with the Global Tax Department and ensure effective communication of finance and business issues and changes in relevant local tax legislations.
- Mentor and develop staff and succession planning.

KPIs
- Timely preparation of provisions, tax returns, etc.
- Timely filing of regional/local tax returns and payments.
- Compliance with all tax rules and regulations.
- Execution and implementation of tax-related projects.
- Timely resolution of tax disputes.

AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING
- Recommendation to Group Tax regarding choice of advisor regionally/locally.
- Ensure ongoing interaction and negotiation with local tax authorities.
- Non-routine projects must be approved by Head of Group Tax.

CHALLENGES
- Responsible for a local/regional functions and working in a matrix organization, and as such challenged to work with colleagues across the world on a frequent basis.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


Field of Study:
• BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or Business
• Masters in Taxation (preferred)

Experience: 5-8 yrs


Industry: Progressive experience in public accounting or internal corporate tax department with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in U.S. federal and international areas.

Job Specific: Demonstrated technical tax expertise with a solid understanding of tax concepts, practices, and procedures; experience dealing with multiple consolidated entities, transfer pricing, and international taxation. Strong communications skills to communicate / negotiate complex tax issues, opportunities, and risks to others at the senior level both internally and externally.

- Experience with ERP systems
- Strong experience with financial reporting tools (e.g., Hyperion) and desktop applications (MS Office)

Travel Required
Amount of traveling (domestic and international): On average 2-3 days per month.
