Summary
The Kitchen Cook prepares food according to recipe and restaurant specifications in a timely and efficient manner.

Essential Functions
To perform the Kitchen Cook position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•  Prep food to include washing, mixing, rinsing etc.

•  Use kitchen tools to include knives and kitchen equipment in food preparation

•  Observe all safety procedures

•  Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times

•  Prevent food waste whenever possible 

•  Unpack and stock kitchen deliveries as necessary

•  Interchangeability between all Kitchen stations

•  Understand how to use and operate all kitchen equipment

•  Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations

•  Check and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points

•  Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for an individual to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the Kitchen Cook position:

   •  Knowledge about Kitchen utensils and tools

•  Team Player

•  Possess knife handling skills including cutting and chopping skills

•  Basic cleaning skills

•  Knowledge of a range of ingredients and their use

•  Ability to take constructive criticism in a positive way

•  Ability to speak, read and understand basic cooking directions

•  Ability to weigh and measure  using Imperial units of weight measurement (ounces/pounds) and volume (cups/quarts)

•  The individual is frequently required to taste and/or smell food being prepared

•  Be responsible in handling challenging situations

•  Ability to make decisions in a time pressured environment

•  Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure

•  Have confidence, self-drive and be enthusiastic

Reasoning Ability
•  Ability to apply common sense to understanding and carry out instructions

Language Ability
•  Effectively interact and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds

•  Effectively communicate in English language

•  Speak, read and understand basic cooking directions

•  Possess excellent Communication skills

•  Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other associates of the hotel

Physical Demands
•  Walk or stand 100% of shift

•  Continuously reach, bend, lift, stoop or wipe 100 % of shift

•  Lift around 50 lbs. and push around 75 lbs

•  Consistently and successfully perform while being exposed to excessive heat, cold and water

•  Work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)

•  Stamina to work 40 to 60 hours per week

•  Work swiftly

•  Safely navigate multiple flights of stairs

Position Status and Availability
•  A full-time, flexible (AM or PM) shift, Monday - Sunday including holidays

Education and Experience
•  A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

•  At least three (3) years culinary experience preferably in a culinary program
