Summary
This is a part-time position.

A Barback is a bartenders' assistant. They work behind the bar next to the bartenders. Many of their duties are similar to the bartenders' duties.

Essential Functions
To perform the Barback position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Barback position are as follow:

• Get ice for all the wells

• Prepare fruit trays; make sure there are some backups

• Restocks the bar with beer, liquor, wine, glassware, juices, etc.; make sure everything that is needed is at the bar and that there are enough backups for the shift

• Check draft beers to make sure the kegs are working properly; if the kegs are empty, change out the kegs

• Make sure the bar is clean before opening it

• Wipe the bar top constantly

• Help the bartender with anything needed

• Make sure the beer cooler is clean and organized

• Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications

Language Ability
The individual selected for this position must demonstrate the ability to:

-  Effectively interact and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds

- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

- Write simple correspondence

- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the hotel

Math Ability
The individual selected for this position must demonstrate the ability to:

- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

- Compute rate, ratio, and percent

- Draw and interpret bar graphs

Reasoning Ability
The individual selected for this position must demonstrate the ability to:

- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

- Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills
The individual selected for this position must demonstrate the:

- Aability to utilize Micros computer system

Certificates and Licenses
The individual selected for this position must possess:

- A valid Louisiana's Responsible Vendor Permit or

- The ability to attend a class and pass the Louisiana's Responsible Vendor test with a score of 90% or better

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position:

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

- The position is located in a bar setting where the temperature settings are controlled

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

- Regularly talk or hear

- Frequently stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms

- Occasionally walk

- Safely navigate mulitple flights of stairs

Position Status and Availability
The individual selected to the Carousel Barback position must be available to work:

- A part-time, flexible (AM or PM) shift, Monday - Sunday including holidays

Education and Experience
The individual selected for this position must possess:

- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

- At least one (1) year of customer service experience

- At least two (2) years of Barback experience in a high volume bar
