The Painter applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the hotel.

Essential Functions
To perform the Painter position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  
•  Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting including sanding and removing old paint

•  Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler

•  Tape, float and texture walls and ceilings

•  Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors

•  Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers

•  Apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge or fingers to create special effects

•  Stain, seal and varnish wood surfaces

•  Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level

•  Remove any graffiti from the interior and exterior of hotel

•  Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment by following established inspection procedures

•  Prepare all painted signs required by the hotel

•  Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor used

•  Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment

•  Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean

•  Work with hotel associates including supervisors to complete projects

•  Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures

•  Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition

•  Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

•  Store, handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish and other chemicals according to established procedures

•  Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately

•  Other duties as assigned

Language Ability
•  Effectively communicate and interact in English (speak, read, write) with guests, co-associates and management to their understanding

•  Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

•  Write routine reports and correspondence in the English language

•  Speak effectively before groups of customers and/or associates of the hotel

Math Ability
•  Accurately compute and manipulate mathematical calculations

Reasoning Ability
•  Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

•  Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Work Environment
•  Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor field environment

•  Exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards and all types of weather and temperature conditions

•  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Physical Demands
•  Sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods of time

•  Frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties

•  Climb unusual heights on ladders

•  Lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight

•  Operate assigned equipment and vehicles

•  Safely navigate multiple flights of stairs

Position Status and Availability
•  A full-time, morning (AM) shift, Monday – Friday

Education and Experience
•  Two (2) years of vocational training or experience in the paint trade, preferably in a hotel setting
