Description Reporting to the Director of Human Resources Department, the Human Resources Generalist/Benefits Administrator is responsible for performing, as part of a team, various HR operations and administration, policy implementation, employee relations, benefits plan administration for all company sponsored benefits programs and processes, including claims resolution, change reporting, reconciling invoices for payment, communicating benefits information to existing and newly hired employees, FSA accounts, GK’s Corporate 401(k) plan, and managing FMLA and other leaves.

HR Generalist responsibilities:
• Serves as the subject matter expert for the leave programs in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership, Risk Management, and Legal.
• Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.). Knowledge of workers’ compensation in accordance with applicable OSHA and workers’ compensation laws.
• Participate in the update and maintenance of GK’s human resource information system, and employee electronic and paper records management.
• Coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures that HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed.
• Assists in evaluation of established department goals and recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency.
• Handles some employee relations matters, counseling, and exit interviewing.
• Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 report annually; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
• Participates in administrative staff meetings, and other meetings and seminars.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
• Provides data in support of HR Operations work, Leaves of Absences (LOA’s), and business needs including both ad-hoc and scheduled reports. Manage all administrative aspects of leave to include tracking hours/days used/taken and working closely with Payroll to ensure that pay for employees is accurate and correct.

Primary Benefits Administration Responsibilities:
• Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees.
• Partner with Third Party Administrators in order to generate necessary reports, validate carrier feeds, compliance document filings, HIPPA procedures, and ACA transactions.
• Works with the company’s brokers, executive staff, and the VP of Treasury to ensure 401(k) plan compliance with company and ERISA regulations. File Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan, Form 5500, with the Department of Labor (DOL).
• Supports benefits plan administration for all company sponsored benefits programs and processes, including annual open enrollment, new hire enrollment, employee life events and administration of FSA accounts.
• Performs payroll reconciliations and audits of benefits programs in collaboration with Payroll and Finance Departments.
• Provides participant support and education regarding eligible expenses, account balances and claims, enrollment and change deadlines.
• Works with executive leadership, managers, and staff to resolve complaints, concerns regarding eligibility, payroll discrepancies, etc.
• Maintains employee confidential records while adhering to HIPPA requirements.
• Works with the Payroll Manager and Corporate Controller to generate and maintain vendor reporting and invoicing.
• Respond to the Employment Development Department (EDD) notice(s) triggered when employees file a claim. Process COBRA notifications through third-party benefits administrator, and other employee communications as well.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
• Must be knowledgeable about healthcare reform and HIPAA regulations.

• Experience maintaining benefits programs with vendors.
• Strong understanding of local and federal employment laws.
• Proficient with HRIS; preferably, UltiPro, and document management systems.
• Bilingual communication skills in both English and Spanish
