Description GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The CMBS Analyst will support the evaluation and management of the Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) portfolio. The analyst will be expected to develop their knowledge of commercial real estate and fixed income in order to become adept in the fundamental and technical analysis of the CMBS market. The individual will be required to analyze financial and real estate information and provide an opinion for the evaluation of opportunities and risk within CMBS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Gathers and analyzes monthly remittance reports, company financial statements; industry, regulatory and economic information; new government legislation; and financial periodicals and newspapers.
• Interprets data concerning price, yield, capital structure, cash flows, stability, and future trends of investments.
• Summarizes data describing current and long-term trends in investment risks and economic influences pertinent to investments.
• Prepares reports, including charts and graphs, to illustrate trends, portfolio characteristics, and investment profiles.
• Possess strong knowledge of the commercial real estate market, Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS), and fixed income universe
• Present loan level analysis, quantitative results and independently provide trade recommendations to portfolio managers
• Collaborate with the CMBS portfolio manager in forming and implementing investment strategies
• Shares knowledge of commercial real estate fundamentals with junior analysts
• Perform active surveillance and risk monitoring of the portfolio and update the team with new findings
• Builds knowledge of structural loan and bond features.
• Build relationship with analysts, traders and sales professionals within the CMBS broker dealer community
• Possess knowledge of various third party resource vendors to aid in the evaluation of commercial loan performance
• Contribute to all formal reports and processes that enable the efficient and transparent oversight of the CMBS portfolio.
• Perform other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and one to four years of related experience and/or training. Proficient with Excel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively in small group settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
• Ability to apply mathematical applications to tasks.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:

Analyst shall work towards attaining, the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to maintain company attendance, punctuality and dependability standards as stated in the company handbook.

• Mental demands placed on the analyst are substantial, and require nearly continuous study and analysis of finance-related information.

• Position requires substantial mental demands and nearly continuous study and analysis of finance-related information.

• Position requires the ability to interpret information from financial statements and draw conclusions from that information. Must develop informed opinion and provide supporting information. Position requires strong written and verbal skills to successfully communicate with coworkers, outside sales professionals, outside peers, various company management teams and senior management.

• New investment opportunities often come with a short time frame. Position requires the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and ability to have multiple projects in progress at the same time and the ability to switch back and forth between tasks.

• Requires maintenance of relationships with outside sales professionals, ability to interact with various management teams, interaction with peers from outside the organization and interaction with coworkers including accounting staff and senior management.
