Description GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Graphic designer creates visual concepts using computer software to communicate ideas that inspire, inform or captivate the audience. They develop the overall layout and production design for print and digital advertisements, brochures, magazines, templates and corporate projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate closely with graphic director
• Able to design a wide range of media including, but not limited to: logos, national ads, brochures, disclosures and postcards as well as research new media not currently being used for viability (example: digital media).
• Thinks creatively to produce new ideas and design concepts.
• Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials.
• Handles conceptual design process for Company campaigns and gain approval using rough layouts.
• Completes projects by coordinating with approved outside vendors and printers.
• Meets with internal partners to discuss the business objectives, requirements and business needs of the project. Then, develops a design concept to suit their purpose.
• Partners with internal and external partners to create production-ready files.
• Conduct press checks
• Ensure that all artwork and files are accurate, adhere to brand standards, meet and exceed timeline and deliverable requirements, and follow all specifications.
• Manage technical/file trouble-shooting and design issues.
• Loads HTML emails, memos and letters
• Aids in maintaining Company branding guidelines for all companies under the American Equity Group.
• Keeps abreast of emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite.
• Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops and reviewing professional publications.
• Partners with internal and external partners to create production-ready files.
• Conduct press checks
• Ensure that all artwork and files are accurate, adhere to brand standards, meet and exceed timeline and deliverable requirements, and follow all specifications.
• Manage technical/file trouble-shooting and design issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of digital artwork/media and print production.
• Knowledge of form design and producing various types of print and digital media.
• Understanding of the creative and production processes
• Balance of excellent typography skills, an understanding of photography, layout, illustration, and web/print process
• Solid understanding of image formats (EPS, TIF, GIF, JPEG, PNG, PDF)
• Technical skills in print, digital optimization for web and social media, retouching, 4c printing, digital file preparation, 4-color print and production processes, and pre-press delivery formats
• Understanding of graphic compression
• Adobe applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash) – and a proven ability to create usable templates for print and web.
• Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – and a proven ability to create usable templates

• Experience with digital content such as websites, CMS, social media, online advertising and email campaigns along with basic knowledge of HTML
• Should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Must stay up to date with new production techniques and trends through research and education.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• The specific job duties requiring these physical demands include creating marketing pieces that are visibly appealing since this requires good vision and ability to see detail.

• Must be able to multi-task and create designs based on the needs of the company.

• Position has many projects going at the same time with everyone wanting their project to be a priority.

• Requires dealing with outside vendors for printing and other special projects. Also works frequently with internal partners for various projects.
