General Description of Duties: The primary duty of this position is to administer medications to clients and provide nursing and clerical assistance for licensed nurses. The incumbent must be a graduate of an accredited Medication Aide program.
Administers medications to clients and provides nursing and clerical assistance for licensed nurses. Under the direction, training and delegation of a registered nurse; administers medication; changes sterile and aseptic dressings; provides routine care; collects specimens; monitors administration of oxygen and reports individual's response to licensed nurse; looks for unusual signs as instructed by licensed nurse; reports any changes in health status to a licensed nurse; documents accurate data into log, case records and MAR’s as instructed by licensed nurse. Will be responsible for arranging, transporting, and any necessary follow up for client medical appointments. Alerts Director of Nursing/Director of CL of any unsafe practices and environment that may impact the safety of clients or employees within a reasonable time period. May assist clients in eating, bathing, grooming, and using toilet facilities; notifies supervisor of supply and equipment needs.

Requirements Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medication Aide program required. Six (6) months experience working with developmentally disabled individuals, including those with severe/profound disabilities strongly preferred. Medication Aide Certification from the New Mexico Board of Nursing or in the process of an approved New Mexico Board of Nursing program. Must pass Medication Aide test in New Mexico or documentation from another State with reciprocity or by an approved in-state agency. Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, with internal and external customers of Adelante. Have the ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, supervisors and co-workers. Must maintain CPR, First Aid and other trainings/certifications as required.

Other Requirements: Must be pass background/fingerprint investigation and pre-employment drug screening. Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally. Must have reliable transportation, valid NM driver's license, Agency insurable driving record and proof of current liability insurance. Must be sufficiently mobile to travel to various locations without prior notice. Adelante is a drug free workplace.
